About

My mission at Southern Vermont Home Inspections is to inform and educate home buyers to buy with knowledge, confidence and peace of mind in the Bennington, Rutland, and Windham Counties.

I, Vermont State Licensed & InterNACHI-Certified Professional Home Inspector, Jamie Carey, was born and raised in Bennington County, Vermont where I currently live with my wife, Amy, and son, Blake.  As a child/teenager, I would spend summers with my grandparents helping to take care of their farm along with my brother and cousins. While growing up on the farm we were taught how to operate and fix many pieces of equipment including the tractor, cars, lawn mowers… and to repair or update the house or barn.  We were always building new pens to hold animals, putting up fencing, fixing or building a door or siding… it was never ending. This experience transferred into my first job as a carpenter at the age of sixteen.   I worked for my first boss for the next 13 years between high school and college and beyond working on homes.  I then started my own successful general contracting business in 1999.  I am proud to share that my work was featured in local lumber yard flyers and I was even in some of the lumber yard commercials.

As the success of my contracting business grew, I then decided to expand my services and add home inspections to my repertoire.  I attended Home Inspection institute of America, Inc. in 2000 and graduated top 3 in my “Home Inspector Training Program” course. (The top 3 were all contractors.)

Vermont State recently changed the requirements for home inspectors to operate.  I am now continuing to expand my knowledge in  the home inspection field.  I am currently a member of the InterNACHI “International Association of Certified Home Inspectors” where I complete ongoing system certification, licensing and continuing education courses to become a qualified fully licensed Home Inspector in Southern Vermont.

My real life experience, decades of building knowledge and schooling allow me to make solid recommendations on operating systems and the structure of homes.  I have the knowledge to identify issues and deficiencies through my past experiences that includes;

  • Updating and renovating homes,
  • Building additions on homes,
  • Managing rental properties,
  • Overseeing construction of brand new homes, and,
  • Providing home inspection reports.

My recommendations are based on decades of home building knowledge.  The information you will receive will allow you to make educated decisions during the home buying process and give you the peace of mind you need to move forward with your new home purchase.

I look forward to helping you with your next home purchase with the services I offer for you to obtain the knowledge to buy with confidence and peace of mind.  I am available to answer your questions, set up an appointment and learn more about what services you need; home inspection report, water testing, radon testing and more?
